Anna Pedersen’s journey from Payroll Assistant to Senior Consultant

For many, starting a new job is a journey filled with learning, growth, and unexpected turns. That’s exactly what happened for Anna Pedersen, who, from her home in just ten minutes outside Copenhagen, joined Azets seven years ago without much prior knowledge of payroll. Today, she is a Senior Payroll Consultant, supporting both clients and colleagues with her expertise. We had the pleasure of speaking with Anna about her career path, personal development, and what makes her role at Azets so rewarding.

From learning the ropes to leading the way

“When I first started, I didn’t know much about payroll. I saw it as a learning opportunity, almost like an apprenticeship, where I could gain knowledge and develop new skills.”

Starting as a Payroll Assistant, she quickly built up her expertise. Over time, she advanced to Payroll Consultant, and just last year, she was promoted to Senior Payroll Consultant.

“There has been a lot of development, both professionally and personally. I used to doubt myself and was afraid of making mistakes. I felt everything had to be perfect before I dared to take action. But I’ve learned that it’s okay not to be good at everything from the start – learning is a lifelong journey.”

Taking on more responsibility

As a Senior Payroll Consultant, Anna’s role now involves working with larger clients, supporting colleagues internally, and making key decisions in her area of expertise.

“I’m a superuser for our payroll system, so I help both clients and colleagues with system-related questions,” she explains. “Recently, I’ve also taken on more administrative tasks and act as a backup when needed.”

Her ability to navigate complex payroll systems and provide expert guidance makes her a valuable resource, ensuring smooth payroll operations for both clients and internal teams.

Azets,  teamwork and career climbing

“I like that there’s room for development and that you can shape your career in the direction that suits you best,” she says. “And, of course, the colleagues! There’s a great team spirit here – we support each other and work together to find solutions.”

One of the aspects Anna finds most rewarding is the client interaction. “I enjoy helping clients with payroll-related challenges, especially when they don’t have the expertise in-house. It feels good to know that we can provide the support they need.”

Life in Valby

Anna has always lived close to Copenhagen, and now lives in Valby, just ten minutes outside of the city, where she shares a home with her boyfriend. In her free time, she enjoys going for walks and being in nature. She laughs that she sometimes wishes she had the patience for creative pursuits like painting or knitting, but she’s never quite found the opportunity to start. Instead, she appreciates the freedom of doing what feels right in the moment, whether it’s unwinding after work or spending time with loved ones.

Looking ahead

After seven years at Azets, Anna’s journey is a testament to continuous growth and adaptation. From a new starter with little payroll experience to a senior consultant with specialized knowledge, she has embraced every challenge along the way.

For those considering a career in payroll, Anna offers a piece of advice: “Be open to learning. Payroll is complex, and there’s always something new to understand. But with the right support and mindset, you can develop both professionally and personally.”

At Azets, we’re proud to have dedicated employees like Anna, who bring expertise, enthusiasm, and a commitment to excellence every day!
